Altay: a land of breathtaking beauty

For the latest Russia close-up series RT has travelled to Altay, two regions in Western Siberia in the magnificent Altaian Mountains, the land where Russia, Mongolia, China and Kazakhstan come together.

Considering its any part, most of Altai population are Kazakh people. In Russian part - 70% of population are the Kazakhs. In Mongolian part (Bayan-Olke aimak) - 90%. In Chinesepart - 70%. So it is obvious that Altai's indigenous people are the Kazakhs. Altai is Turkic word and also known as "the cradle of Turkic nation".

The guy at the end is excited about building an international highway and a bunch of casinos in this beautiful land? He hopes it will be like Las Vegas Nevada? That place is pure evil--a den of greed, prostitution, pollution, and ruined lives. If any Russians read this comment, you MUST fight these "developments". Untainted wilderness is a rare thing these days. Why would you want to destroy one of the most wonderful places in the world for a fucking casino?

Italian people are good friends of Russians, and Kazakhs too.

We hope there will be no clashes between the two populations.

Also, it's very important to preserve the environment for the future, while creating "development".

I hope to visit the land at earliest convenience!

We will go nowhere you circus clown. This is our land, our country, our Russia and we will defend it with nuclear, chemical and biological arsenal. Besides this utopia of Altai Republic being part of Kazakhstan or Mongolia is hilarious and does not have any support in Altai region.

@SuperZveruga That is good to know. Thank you. The more I think about it, the more I realize a casino district may be a good thing. It will provide considerable income for the republic and create jobs. If casinos and the tourism they generate can provide enough income year after year, there would never be a need to harvest Altai's natural resources. To be honest, I don't know enough about the situation to take a sincere stance. I am just thinking out loud.

@dkzh А население города Горно-Алтайск в основном сотоит из русских и их больше чем всех остальных народов Алтая! Кроме того, если расценивать Алтай как горный массив, то там живут еще и тибетцы! не забывайте об этом.

@Bael777 Sadly there are always opportunistic persons who would rather a short life of comfort than a life of honor. "Whoever is good, will go on being good, and whoever is evil will go on being evil". The world change is right around the corner, how many will be caught off guard, blind in their own self-serving devices? But sometimes good is hidden in what appears to be evil. Altay region and Altay repoblic are Turkic lands like other 6 repoblics wich occupied by Russia. GOD BLESS GREAT TURKSTAN
