The New York City Subway is a rapid transit system owned by the City of New York and leased to the New York City Transit Authority, a subsidiary agency of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and also known as Metropolitan transit authority New York City Transit. It is one of the oldest and most extensive public transportation systems in the world, with 468 stations in operation (421 if stations connected by transfers are counted as a single station); 229 miles (369 km) of routes, translating into 656 miles (1,056 km) of revenue track; and a total of 842 miles (1,355 km) including non-revenue trackage. In 2008, the subway delivered over 1.623 billion rides, averaging over five million on weekdays, 2.9 million on Saturdays, and 2.3 million on Sundays.

The New York City Subway trails only the metro systems of Tokyo, Moscow and Seoul in annual ridership and carries more passengers than all other rail mass transit systems in the United States combined. It is one of the four systems, with PATH, parts of the Chicago 'L', and PATCO to offer service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • doesn't the train have announcements e.g. next station, interchanges etc

  • @sheru7mera7naam007 Yes they do. In between each stop they announce the next stop where the train is headed. See some train ride tours in the playlist which were recently posted in HD and you will hear them clearly. Feel free to leave comments on them on your thoughts. Thank you for tuning in.

  • kool video... i'm thinking of visiting NYC in the near future... can someone just tell me if i've got the subway system figured out correctly... from what i understand you guys have trains which are assigned either a letter or a number, which runs on a particular line and a number with a diamond around it is an express service... this is kinda different to what goes on here in London e.g. a train running on the central line will be called a central line train...there is no specific number for it

  • @sheru7mera7naam007 Each number goes through different routes and different stops and through different neighborhoods. However in some stops many of the trains meet usually by major stops and large stations. You can check out the MTA's website for a subway map. This will show you which trains run where and are marked by letters.

  • what train is this?

  • @Jkw718 The D train thanks for tuning in

  • @30DazetoMars Dunno if you have been yet. the Subway is easy to get round. just find out if ur local stop is on the express or local stops and thats what train you need. local trains are in circles, express in diamonds. and the numbers are like the tube lines. the number 6 for example goes from pelham bay park in the bronx to brooklyn bridge.

  • @WorldTravelerMan great, thanks for the info

  • I love N.P.H., but YouTube's ads. must be punched in the cockhole.
