Hey sal I'm currently practicing this rasqueado (I got the book, Keys to Flamenco by Dennis Koster). Anyways I was wondering if in the future you could make a video playing between two different rasqueados. Unfortunatly I've lost my cd for the book and I'm terrible at getting the feel of a quintuplet, specifically when it transitions between eight note rasqueado and a quintuplet rasqueado. Maybe you could give me some advice on this or point me in the right direction.

Is it bad technique to hold your hand in an open fist with your thumb holding back your fingers? When I strum with my pinky my ring finger wants to go with it, so I hold it back with my thumb.

I am not interested in good or bad or wrong or right. If a particular technique works for you then use it. The question is not so much about whether your technique is wrong, but it has more to do with.. "Are you happy with it?" Have you tried NOT holding back your ring finger with the thumb? You will find it hard to do at first but keep at it. Try all methods and give them a chance to work. Then decide what is best for you. That's it. Good or bad has nothing to do with it.

your fingers move so smoothly- i find that my little finger joint is very stiff and that its hard to get it glide out- the joint kind of "pops" and it sometimes doesnt want to move. Any experience with this problem? :P. I have a good flamenco teacher in melbourne, but i cant seem to fix this problem.

Everybody's hands are unique and different in some way. Me best suggestion is keep trying. If you get no joy because of the pinky joint behavior then don't worry about it. Just develop rasgueados using only three fingers.
