Join me for a leisurely Saturday morning walk and drive through an area that may change your perception of Chicago's southwest side. If I hadn't told you where we were, you might have guessed Winnetka, or an equally affluent patch of Chicago's north shore.

North Beverly is bounded by the Dan Ryan Woods Forest Preserve to the north, 95th St on the south, and ranges east from the country clubs along Western Ave to the forest preserve and Beverly Ave. Hop on the Metra's Rock Island line at the 91st St station, and two stops and 24 minutes later you'll be downtown at the LaSalle St station.

  • Do not be fooled by this video. If you go two blocks south of there you will once again the true South Side of Chicago. These 9 blocks in North Beverly is the best of the neighborhood. There are also some smaller homes in that area that you forgot to tape. It is a very safe area of Chicago but not as wealthy as this video trys to say. On three sides it is bounded by lower income areas of Chicago. There is virtually no where to shop unless you travel to nearby Evergreen Park.

  • I didn't forget to tape - you neglected to look.

This is one of a series of videos I shot in Beverly / North Beverly. Check out the playlist.

  • I grew up here in the '60s. Nice to see it hasn't changed much! I lived on the 93rd block of Longwood Drive, so if you had turned the opposite way on Longwood you would have passed it---but went to gradeschool with the kids who lived in many of these houses! Thanx for the scoot down memory lane!
