VICTORIA - UVIC business students organized a Carrotmob at the Fernwood Inn. Through digital word-of-mouth customers were encouraged to spend their money today at the Fernwood Inn under the understanding that their dollars would bring about eco-friendly and sustainable changes. The owner of the Inn, Mike Colwill says 100 per cent of what customers spend today will got toward environmental upgrades - plus he'll match dollar for dollar. So 200 per cent of proceeds will be invested in the aged building, where Colwill says energy costs are through the roof. Proceeds of the Carrotmob will be used to better insulate the 100 year old building and for a heat pump.

Carrotmobs began in California in 2008.

Local organizer John Bayley says Victoria is a great spot for successful Carrotmobs because people love where they live and appreciate making a difference.
