Going into Hospital - Checklist

If you are going into hospital to have a baby there are a number of important items you will need to take with you. We have made up a list of items so that you will not forgot any of your essentials although please use this as a rough guide only as everyone is different and we may not have something on the list that you would choose to take with you! We advise you to have your bag of essentials packed well before your due date just in case your baby comes by earlier than you expected. Below is our list which includes many essential items such as a rear facing baby car seat. A rear facing baby car seat is essential for driving your baby home. We advise that you arrange for someone else to drive you home from the hospital as you will still feel sore at that point.

For you:

1) Dressing gown, slippers and warm socks for warmth and comfort.

2) Night dresses or a large t-shirts to wear in your bed and to give birth in!

3) Tissues those always come in handy.

4) Toiletries, make-up, toothbrush, brush those are your everyday essentials and you would be devastated if you forgot them!

5) Water spray or some sort of cooling spray you may feel warm in the hospital and those are perfect to help freshen you up.

6) Money and some change always best to have some to hand.

7) Mobile phone with top up cards you will want to call EVERYBODY after you have had your baby. Remember to keep your phone switched off in the hospital.

8) A couple of bath towels for drying yourself after you have washed.

9) Some old knickers and maternity pads you wouldnt want to stain any good knickers!

10) A note of your friends and families phone numbers plus any important numbers in case there is anyone you need or want to contact.

11) Breast pads and nursing bras pads to keep your clothes from getting covered in breast milk, and the bras for holding the pads and for keeping you comfortable.

12) Drinks and snacks you will feel very hungry after you have given birth.

13) Magazines or books you may feel a bit bored as babies tend to sleep a lot in their first few days.

14) A camera you will want to take pictures of your baby in the hospital, the first pictures are irreplaceable.

15) Ear plugs the hospital can be very noisy.

16) Comfortable outdoor clothes for going home in.

For your baby:

1) Newborn nappies and nappy bags the nappy bags are to put the smelly nappies into.

2) Vests and sleep suits they will keep your baby warm and comfortable.

3) Baby wipes and nappy cream the wipes to clean your babys bottom and the cream to soothe their bottom.

4) Comfortable going home clothes to keep your baby comfortable and warm on their way home.

5) A rear facing baby car seat your baby cant travel home in a vehicle without one. A rear facing baby car seat is something you should buy well before your pregnancy as it is a very important item for your baby.
