Adrian Grenier and Jessica Stam hosted the first annual charity: water ball to build wells in Africa. The event was hosted at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New york City, where charity: water staged a large one-night only exhibition. More than $250,000 was raised. Does charity: water do anything else besides dig a well? Groundwater may be a lot more clean, and a hell of a lot cleaner than these springs and ponds people get water from, but it still requires treatment. Groundwater may have rid the water of suspended solids and microbial contaminants, but it has not removed the total dissolved solids. Many aquifers are highly contaminated with nitrates and ammonia. Chemical contaminants require some treatment. What does charity: water do about these?

Having worked in this field for years, wells break and/or eventually go dry. Then what? In my opinion, Michael Pritchard's water filter that makes filthy water drinkable is a better and cheaper option. Charity:W is just a fundraising organization 3 yrs. old. No long term studies of the depletion of the water table is documented on their site. I wish they had a better strategic plan than just "donate".
