An animation to explain the idea of using an electron gun, such as that from a CRT, to build a functional lightsaber.

Be sure and check out the write-up at: http://nextgentech.freehostia.com/?page=articles&article=lightsaber&s...

Please note that this design has some critical flaws that will not enable it to work in real life. Please do not take apart your TV to try to make it!

  • If someone make it, it will be a big step for humans

  • this is an interesting idea for a saber. unfortunately ... the power source required for this and any other idea for a physical energy blade would not fit inside a hilt

  • What about plasma subjected to an electromagnetic current via electromagnetic coils? Somewhat like NASA's new plasma shield prototype(s) and design(s). Plasma is contained to a limited area, the hilt would be shaple like a "Y", With the top part of the "Y"(The "V" of the "Y", if you will) Used to provide a triangular(isoceles) shaped blade and contain the coils/magnets. The energy source...I am not sure.

I have no clue if any of this would work, just looking for opinions?

  • @sickboy1138 Not yet anyway :)

  • "you can not make the electromagnetic field of electrons stop at a certain point for a real light saber unless stop by another piece of matter it is impossible to make a real lightsaber" But what about a "Beam Sword" like in No More Heroes? Not a Lightsaber, but a sword with a Support Rod and the other magnetic disc to stop it. Then the Electromagnetic Field of electrons will stop, thus having a "cutting side" and a "blunt side". Once the Support Rod breaks, the blade is no longer workable, tho

  • @pitsahat2 what about carbon nano tubes?

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm kind of a researcher myself, and this is similar to what I'm trying to accomplish. It gave me an idea of what I've been looking for, thank you.

  • Why won't this theory work?

  • @AznFiter The electrons loop round back to the hilt due to it's electromagnetic metal. And the light coming from the hilt would only illuminate the electrons so no, it wouldn't go on forever.

  • How would the light be stopped? It would also go on forever, right?

  • im currently 21 and im gonna try to make this, i loved star wars my whole life and dont have any family, plus my somewhat freind is rich and he will provide money. I have nothing to lose if anything goes wrong

  • this should come in SWTOR collectors edition box set
