Mouryou Senki Madara was an interesting RPG for its age. The main difference between Madara and games like Final Fantasy was an active battlefield. Instead of taking turns and taking time to choose an action, the action was much more dynamic, a bit similar to Tales of Phantasia's battle system. You could give general directions to your characters and pause the battle at any time to give another command, but apart from that the battle was continuous. Apart from battle system Madara was an ordinary RPG from 8-bit era with travelling through vast, monotonous landscapes and quite a lot of necessary leveling up.

The game utilised the VRC6 chip, which, among other features, added 3 extra sound channels, allowing for a considerable improvement in the soundtrack's quality. VRC6 was also used in several other games, including the Japanese version of Castlevania III.

  • This is a very "wrathful" video. =p

  • nob

  • the vrc6 chip gives the famicom an enormouse boost in porfomance, not only does it generate great 3 fm channels to the existing 5 channels in the famicom, nut also adds special effects, like weaving or dizzy effects etc,,,expanding the famicom graphical capabilities.

this revolutionairy chip revolutionized the 8bit era gameconsoles.

trough it comes NOT close to the snes in porfomance but it,s still mind blowing such upgrades.

  • for some reason this reminds me the soundtrack of lagrange point..another nes game.

  • @johneymute Both, actually. There's this music composer called FamiTracker. If you can figure it out, you will get what I mean.

  • @Devilman6066 because of the vrc6! HELL YEAH!!!

  • Best NES music I have ever heard

  • @KitsuneDarkStalker

There were on fact few games with VRC6 & only 1 with VRC7.

their sound is cool, but the music itself sucks.

"nothing compaired with the snes soundchip"

    You mean "technologically".

VRC7 is pretty much on par with the more advanced spu's like Z80 (Sega Genesis), IMHO, but I prefer the pureness of VRC6 (even over SPC700), and maybe Konami did too when they released their last game "Esper Dream 2", they "downgraded" sound to VRC6 ;)
