They didn't stop the test because of mis-calculation. Just a short time later they blew up another H-Bomb (Castle Romeo) an 11 Megaton device on a barge in the Castle shot crater.

@TheUnMuseum Fission (A-Bombs) are far less than 1 megaton. The largest ever built was 500 kilotons. Look up the Operation Ivy (King Shot) and you will see it.

You can never be too careful. They should have researched a lot more than they did even though if it would take months or years.
