Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Thursday conducted mock "Airport Emergency Exercise Air-X-11" here at Benazir Bhutto International Port. The full scale exercise was conducted to attain, develop, educate and train to achieve high-level of Fire Safety and First Aid procedures during an emergency at airport. During the exercise an aeroplane was supposed to be in urgent situation and adopted emergency landing at the airport. During the exercise rescue teams responded to the passengers for rescuing and rescued 160 passengers. 11 passengers were declared dead and 15 were injured. The exercise showed the proficient work of rescue teams, which include, CAA Emergency Response Team, Rescue 1122, Edhi Trust and Emergency Resource Planning (ERP) of Pakistan International Airline (PIA), and Airport Security Force (ASF). Beside these teams, medical staff from Pakistan Army and Air Force also took part in the exercise. During the exercise, miscellaneous endeavours were shown including controlling the fire, shifting of passengers from plane to coasters, medical treatment and shifting wounded people and dead bodies to hospital. It was worth mentioning here that it is mandatory by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to conduct this exercise on yearly basis by the member states.
