Sussex firefighters compete climbing ladders in Chichester city centre in Feb 2008. Every team climbs the equivalent of the Twin Towers in about half an hour - boy are they in a sweat afterwards! This is Firefighter Partridge, turning out for Shoreham.

  • Plus, the rules of the contest say one foot has to be on a rung at all times, as they have to in real fires to ensure safety. So it's slow, but these guys can climb like this all day. The hook ladders aren't used here any more because they kill more firemen than the people they save.

  • space helmet!!!

  • @chechnya

I've not had any problems with movement although it's worth noting it dose restrict hearing quite a bit - it's a compromise.

  • SLOW!

  • wow speed climbing... you might as well have a speed shaving contest while you are at it... you arent supposed to play or race on ladders...

  • I like their helmets compared to Americans style. Looks like it protects more, but also restricts movement.

  • Oh yeah, real "slow". He'd been doing this all day for charity. What else would he be by then on a long summer's day wearing all that gear?

  • ssssslllllllloooooooooooooooooowwwwww
