On August 27-28, 2011, CrossFitters, strongman competitors, and local lumberjacks will go head-to head in log chops, axe throws, crosscut sawing, and cable drags.
Kurtis Bowler of Rainier CrossFit is organizing the event. Bowler is the original CrossFit strongman, with ties to the community extending back nearly nine years. In addition to running a successful affiliate, Bowler has dedicated himself to bringing strongman protocols to the community and raising money for Fragile X research.
The events will be:
"The Standing Log Chop." In this event, the competitor stands next to a vertical log and chops it in half. The fastest time wins.
"The Axe Throw." It's test of strength, coordination, and accuracy. Competitors throw an axe, attempting to stick it on a two-foot wide target.
"Single and Double Bucking." Using a crosscut saw, competitors cut through one or two horizontal logs as quickly as possible.
"Choker Setting." The competitors drag a heavy steel cable fifty feet and attach it to what Bowler describes as "a big ass log."
Anyone interested in registering may do so through CrossFit Rainier's website. The full weekend, including training and competition, costs just $50. There is no entry deadline, but early registration will help Bowler buy enough lumber.
I feel more manly just watching this.
