when the devil made that woman, he threw the pattern away
she was built for speed, with the tools you need, to make a new fool everyday...

@NoRosesForMe Hear me out now. I've heard Shaver say it in an interview. Billy Joe Shaver's son died of a heroin overdose so it was obviously a contentious theme in his life. "A shaken hand and a bottle of gin and a rose of a different name.".

@Michaeldean88 I agree with you. Heroin...pft! Its OBVIOUS what the song is about. Awesome album. Screw opinions and rumors. ...unless streetjustice can give me proof. ♥ Peace n love n blessings to ya

@streetjustice Are you serious? How do you know that for sure? You blew my mind. ...hehe wow....are you really serious? Its a fantastic song..doesnt matter what its about really. Not to me anyways. I just love that line- "The devil made me do it the first time- the second time I done it on my own"...I have had this album ( vinyl) for years. Grew up with the real stuff (Waylon-etc_ but I never knew,,,I think its more romantic to think of it as a guy in love with a black woman.Radical thinking

The song is about heroin. Not about a black woman.

shaver has an excellent vocal as well. not as versatile as waylon, but real good.
I swear there has never been, and never will be again, a human being quite as amazing and talented as Waylon Jennings.
My hat comes off for you, Hoss.
