  • hey akhenatn, it's a process. I was taught the compost tea method by Paul Taylor from Trust Nature. He says a three year transition is period about the time needed for the beneficial bacteria to take over and it gets better from there. Some bugs are still inevitable though. Google "Rodale Institute" for the longest running organic vs conventional study, great stuff there. And this search term for my podcast - "paul taylor" "Great Soil Biology", clicking the first link. Hope this helps!

  • @PermacultureNews @akhenatn That was me writing that comment in case you were wondering... I didn't realise I was logged into PRI's account.

  • Been watching your stuff with great interest in general. That bike you built was pure genius mate.

We've just bought land outside Cygnet, and are having conflabs with technically-inclined mates about optionally-biogas-miniature-engine-powered cargo bikes for nipping in and out of town (6km, 0.5 km of rise over the trip back!)... among other grandiose plans!!

Keep up the great work. And tell me where I can get a hat like yours - very practical.

    Cheers, H&C

  • @helkyrie Thanks! I have a cool video coming up on alternative energy that might be just what you're looking for.. Isn't motorisation one of the fascinating things out there? I'll keep you posted.

Hehe the hat was $6 from the reject shop. Was a great buy, has lasted a while.

  • My soil has a long way to go to look like your soil. Compost tea can be made from comfrey. Is there any other plants that can work well as compost tea?

  • I wish that was my soil! That's Geoff Lawton's soil.. and you're right, its amazing. The original dirt sitting around outside the garden is terrible and wouldn't grow much at all.

I've only been taught the method using compost, humic acid, molasses and kelp. I have heard of using comfrey (which would seem to work well considering the properties) but haven't tried it.

  • Good afternoon fellow Aussie boy! I was actually searching for some videos explaining why aerated compost tea was so much better than regular compost tea and found your video. It makes a lot of sense to grow organically which many people do not understand. The addition of synthetic chemicals to soils is damaging to the soil and leads to a DEPENDENCE on synthetics, kills soil biota which are essential to soil health, is expensive and leads to waterways contamination with overuse. All the best!!

  • nice hat dude... I saw your plants and they look like having a serious problem with bugs, does not compost tea help to eliminate this problem?

  • @helkyrie What bike video are you refering to? I cant seem to find it? Have you managed to get any further with the biogas mini engine? Anything posted online about it?

  • @helkyrie thanks! I do love that hat
