I took my phone outside the other night to record how the Google Sky Map application works on Android. The video turned out ok considering how dark it was standing in my front yard.
You can hear my hesitation as I almost begin discussing the science behind the fact that Aries is located in a direction inconsistent with the traditional idea that, "the stars and planets are all in the sky right above me"... I sort of figured it would be best not to get into that here.
I see tremendous education value in this sort of application. Imagine a student having the ability to point their phone at the sky to see (and control their learning process) where the stars and planets are in the solar system at any given time. Far cooler than building those styrafoam balls with coat hangers to illustrate the solar system in elementary school...
Hahaha - Can't wait to use this application on 12-21-2012.
