The Jeff Warren Johnston Band performs their classic-sounding, country songs at popular music venues in Austin, Texas. The mission of the JWJ Band is to please listeners longing for that "real" country music sound in the vein of traditional artists such as Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, David Allan Coe, Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Johnny Cash, while simultaneously paving new country roads. This particular song is inspired by rebel country, rockabilly, and punk from crazed Texas artists such as the Butthole Surfers and Reverend Horton Heat.

The JWJ Band highly recommends: The Marshall Ford Swing Band, the Atomic Duo, the Love Leighs, Roky Erickson, 13th Floor Elevators, Jack Wilson, Raina Rose, Terri Hendrix, Corrina's Dreamland Band, Guy Forsyth, Milk Drive, Sick's Pack, The Belleville Outfit, Junior Brown, Dale Watson, Robert Earl Keen, and the Bad Livers

LYRICS:

When I was in the Army in the good ole days
We had to march 90 miles up a mountain both ways
40 pounds on our back, hardly nuthin' to eat
Grindin' our feet into hamburger meat - uncooked

So if you never stayed awake for 3 days straight long
Never took a bullet or shrapnel from a bomb
Get sore if you're tore an arm's length from your mom
Grow a pair with some hair - Suck it up & Drive On

Now where I come from son, you don't let your heart bleed
Find a match, get a patch, but keep it off of your sleeve
You might as well hang it on a nail to a tree
Put that damn thing away before somebody sees and breaks it

Cause if you want a pretty woman to love you true
Never run away and never cheat on you
You better learn this game - play it all night long
The rules apply from here to Hong Kong - Suck it Up & Drive On

Oh can you feel it tonight?
10,000 more so-called men wanna give up the fight
You gotta take a little pain son if you wanna get strong
Don't pussyfoot your life long gone - Suck it Up & Drive On

The XY generation's got a problem, see
To be a man's man is not considered P.C.
Can't speak your mind freely lest someone gets hurt
Step into my office I got news for ya squirt - That's life

So if you never rode a bull and never bagged a deer
Never skinned a rabbit while you're chuggin a beer
Never made love like you're bangin a gong
The right to call yourself a man is all wrong
You're like a lump on my log

Oh can you feel it tonight?
10,000 more so-called men wanna give up the fight
You gotta take a little pain son if you wanna get strong
Don't pussyfoot your life long gone - Suck it Up & Drive On

Oh can you feel it tonight?
10,000 more so-called men wanna give up the fight
You gotta take a little pain son if you wanna get strong
Desolate the pink of my john - Suck it Up & Drive On
