My son Roscoe passed on Feb 9 2008 after giving my wife and I 8 1/2 wonderful years of love and companionship. He was more than just our dog he was an integral part of our family, our son- and he will be dearly missed.

Late in the afternoon of Feb. 9th he started to act very tired and his stomach appeared bloated. His condition quickly worsened so we took him to the emergency room. By the time we got to the emergency room he started having seizures and his gums were white; he was in shock. They gave us hope because they were able to stabilize him but after viewing the X-Rays the doctor said he had a tumor on his spleen that ruptured and he would probably not survive surgery and more than likely surgery would not help. With that information my wife and I had to make the painful decision to end his suffering and put him to sleep. We were lucky that they were able to stabilize him so we could bring his brother Petie (italian greyhound) with us and we could spend some few final precious moments to say goodbye properly.

He passed onto the rainbow bridge while in his mom and dads arms. We love him so much and right now it is so hard to imagine life without him...We love you Roscoe and miss you so very much thank you for giving us so much love!!!!

  • I left you a video response because I too lost a Basset named Roscoe. Watching your video made me think about him. Thanks for sharing.

  • Your Roscoe looked very sweet and def had a good life. Bassets are such good dogs its too bad they are not here with us longer.

  • Thanks for sharing Roscoe with us.I know the pain you are going through. I had to put my basset (Sherlock) down on 3-11-08. He was only 9 years old. He had some of the same symptoms Roscoe had. He was very tired and his gums were white. Took him to the vet and his blood count was way off. His immune system was attacking his red blood cells. They kept him a few days then sent him home for the weekend. I think they knew he did not have much time left. He passed onto the rainbow bridge in my arms.

  • Sorry to hear about losing Sherlock, but im sure he was happy to be spend his final moments at his home with his family. I still miss my Roscoe and think of him everyday.

  • Thanks for sharing the video. Looks like a great dog.

  • I HAVE A ROSCOE BASSET HOUND DOG TOO! EXELENT DOGS!

loving dogs and sorry 4 you'r loss :(

  • Hmmm...tried to send you a 'video response' plus a note. Guess you can't do both at the same time. Anyway, just wanted to say that was a nice tribute you did for Roscoe. We've enjoyed three Bassets in our lives. They do leave an awfully big, Basset-shaped hole in your life when they pass. Hope in time you'll feel ready to share your lives with another one.

  • I'm crying. This is so sad. I just lost a Basset hound, Daisy. I knew I loved that dog but when she passed, I cried so much I was physically sick. I just couldn't get over her. I rescued another dog and she has been a Godsend. She is five but she is the funniest dog I've ever seen. She's also a Basset. Your Roscoe was adorable. I think Bassets are the best dogs in the world. They are beautiful, smart, funny...I love them.

  • @Granhead2 Continuation:

Doing that day-in and day-out put alot of stress on us as well as Roscoe.

After a week of stress and back-breaking work, we, and Roscoe (we feel), decided that putting him to sleep was the only option.

Right before he was drugged to be relaxed, he gave each of us a lick on the face and put his paw over our hearts<3333:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

    R.I.P.

  • I had a basset hound named Roscoe as well!!!:/ he was put down on June, 15, 2011.

Just days after 8th Grade Graduation, he began walking strangely. We thought he had a sprained ankle or something, but the vet said he was okay... I didn't believe her.

As days went by, he began to loose all of his physical mobility in his rear legs. He couldn't move around on his own at all. every 3 hours my parents would come home from work to put him in his crate and carry him outside to do his buisness.

  • I know how you feel because I lost both of my precious babies too. I know you loved him so much and I know he loved you too.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I had a basset hound named Fred, he passed away of lymphoma. We now have a white basset named Lucy :-).

  • I'm soooo crying ! I have a basset too ...

  • This is so beautiful! I have a basset hound I couldnt imagine life with out him! this brought tears to my eyes!
