I read that Buddy Holly's widow Maria wanted to charge his home city Lubbuock TX to use his name and likeness in any way. That was an idea that was heavily criticized. C'mon charge his hometown to use his name and likeness on billboards, advertisements, merchandise ANYTHING?! Yeah, she was trippin' a little too hard lol!

Paul McCartney corrected a wrong here. THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY with Gary Bussey did a grave error in leaving out the Petty's and Clovis, New Mexico (my hometown). The story that I hear was that Holly's widow would allow them the story rights as long as there was no mention of either. McCartney saw the movie and decided to tell the story the way it should have been told. To tell the Buddy Holly story without Clovis or The Pettys would be a sin.
