Skoda Fabia vRS at Geneva 2010

Facelifted Fabia gets vRS treatment with 178bhp 1.4 TSI engine - plus estate version confirmed.

At VWs pre-Geneva party, dominated by powerful offerings from Bentley, Porsche and Lamborghini, Skoda proved that good things come in small packages, too. Looking stunning in a shade of alien green paint, the Czech brand threw the covers off its latest hot hatch, the Fabia vRS.

It sports the new facelift that makes its debut on the entire range at Geneva, and has a contrasting roof colour available in black, white or silver. The vRS certainly looked the part, even amongst more exotic metal.

Under the bonnet it uses the same 178bhp 1.4 TSI engine as the Polo GTI, and is hooked up to a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard. Thats enough power for 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds and a top speed in the region of 135mph.

And in true Skoda style, it plans to undercut the competition, despite having the same hi-tech underpinnings. Whereas the Polo GTI is likely to start from £18,000, the Fabia will start from roughly £2,000 less, Auto Express has learned.

And thats not all, for those who want practicality and hot hatch thrills in equal measure, a vRS estate is to be offered for the first time, too.

@Pinin500 Yes, actually, I could have bought a BMW but think they are ugly and old fashioned with their rwd.FYI, how can a 20-something be a grandad? I chose my Skoda as its great fun to drive, is reliable, very fast, and is a quality car. It wasn't cheap, it isn't an old duffers car as you put it. Have you ever driven a Skoda vRS, or are you just a 'pub bore' who THINKS he knows about cars? You have too much time on your hands waiting for your Alfa to come back from the dealers for repairs.

This is an amazing car! I have just purchased one exactly the same colour. This car is a rocket and is such a better buy than a polo. Would definitely recommend this car for anyone looking for comfort, speed, safety and an overall cool looking little car!

It's a shame this only comes with the option of DSG gearbox, a manual box would be lighter.
