A comparison of wide-angle lens for my Canon Vixia HF-20 camcorder: Sony Wide Conversion Lens VCL-HA07A (0.7x) and Opteka High Definition II Super Fisheye Lens (0.43x). Both are inexpensive alternatives, compared to the Canon wide angle lens. Quality is OK with either of them. The Opteka lens is much wider (it also has a fisheye mode and a macro mode), so there's vignetting, and if you zoom in, the image is quite distorted. The Sony lens is very good in any focal distance.

  • @kakaphotos cheers for that i'll have a go

  • @missioncrowney I don't know about a separate plastic ring. What's nice about the rubber lens hood: it's inexpensive, it has threads to attach a filter, and it's easy to take the rubber part off. I've never seen one with 69mm diameter, though. The standard sizes are 67mm (too small) and then 72mm, so you'll need to wrap some tape around the lens to make it fit. The UV will protect the lens, and you'll be able to use a standard lens cap too. The hood itself is not really useful.

  • i asked the same question twice thought it didn't post the first time!

  • @kakaphotos thanks for that so you don't recommend a lens hood for this lens, what do you suggest to prevent light interference a UV filter? can you buy a plastic thread ring without the rubber hood then, if so what size do you suggest to fit the sony diameter 69mm or 72mm? soz not clued up when it comes to this it's all trial and error with me right now :)

  • @kakaphotos thanks for that, yea i have checked his video but not sure on the lens part, thnx for your comment. You don't recommend a lens hood for this wide angle lens then! what's the best solution to reduce light interference use a UV filter instead? also the plastic thread ring can you buy these separate from a rubber lens hood and if so what size do you recommend to fit the sony diameter 69mm or 72mm, soz this is all trial and error to me i have no clue what i'm doing :)

  • @missioncrowney BTW, I didn't keep the actual rubber hood, just the inner plastic ring. It's very easy to take it apart. The lens hood on a wide angle lens will certainly cause some vignetting.
