6:00am this morning sirens were heard. I looked out of my bedroom window to see black smoke rising. Two doors down there was a house fire. Flames blazing out of windows and firemen ready to stop it. All people go out of the house and are fine. Here is a video of early this morning on Beacon Hill, Seattle. August 4, 2010

  • I apologize for my "slow" comment to the firefighters. You are right Gavin, I have no idea what it takes to put out a fire and never claimed to be an "expert". This was my first house fire and it was very early in the morning. The commentary is catching my emotion and curiosity about the job.

  • You said the firefighters were slow because you didnt see any water being sprayed. The fact is there was a hose line on the right side protecting the exposure house that was catching fire quickly. The house on fire was a total loss. The first crew was notified that everybody was out, so the next objective is to save the house on the right. Everything was performed quickly and efficientley, you just couldnt see that part. Well done SFD!! Nobody got hurt and a home was saved!!

  • great viedo, but i dont like how you said firefighters are slow, if only you knew what it takes.

  • I like these people who armchair quarterback the firefighters job. In this case, structure is pretty much a write off.

  • omg that was my friend's house!! :( it's already been a year.

  • i'm glad you corrected yourself.

  • Very unfortunate for that family. Thank God they were all okay.

Nice commentary? Please keep your "expertise" about fire ground tactics and time to access water to yourself when you have no idea about the job. Just because a fire engine arrives does not mean that water will instantly fly out of it. FYI, nearest hydrant hidden in bushes, 2-1/2" lines means minimal attack by tank H2O on fully involved house, had to get next hydrant. They did fine.

  • Wow, how did I sleep through that? Such a loss!
