This is my final for our Interactive Animation class.

We had to sketch, design, build, texture, rig, animate and export a character suitable for export to a game engine (ie. Unreal Engine)

Really enjoyed animating him - first full on attempt at animation cycles suitable for games. Model, textures and animation sets work perfectly fine in any of the Unreal engines!

7304 Tris (not polys)
[Count is a bit high - theres room for optimization though]
2 Diffuse Maps
(Specular and Alpha Channels in diffuse maps)
Time: 10 weeks to complete (including design stages)

I'm fairly happy with the result - Plenty of room for improvement in the animation department, but I'm working on it.

Rendering this time round, was easy and took less than an hour for all footage. Used one direct light and 2 fill lights (was a bit rushed)
Rendered to TGA files at 1024 x 576 (16:9)
No final Gather - No Arch&Des Materials.
Cut together in Premiere Pro.

Hope you like him - All constructive feedback welcome.

  • he i think i saw this in the student resources folder!

  • @JediImpulse Ha! really? cool.. although I wasn't real happy with how it turned out.

  • can't wait till i attend qantm next year. only down side is that i have to do game design instead of games programming. WHY did i have to chose the easyest math

  • @bigbuda01 hey man You only get to design this kind of character and animate it in the Bachelor of Interactive entertainment Majoring in animation. Games design only looks at basic modelling and programming, but focuses on game design documentation and what makes a good game. I'd check your degree before starting...

  • Hey, are there any courses at Qantm that do music inside of games? Because I asked them then they told me to go to SAE, that hasn't got anything that focus' mostly on audio in games. :(((

  • @dozzaskebab Not at Qantm man, sorry hey. SAE does everything you'd need to know for audio in general - it won't specialise in games but you'd know how to do after going to sae. they do stuff for film and music mastering mainly.

  • @BobInAVlog Hey man Unless you've animated before and have a lot of prior experience with a solid and varied showreel your not going to go straight into a senior animators role - junior or maybe even mid level jobs if your really awesome - senior positions requires years of experience and dedication.

Two years will teach you a little of everything in 3d animation - it really comes down to the individual to put in the after hours practice.

    Good luck man.

  • OMG I want to do game development, but i have to do a diploma in animation first at Qantm. Why did i have to suck at engrish? :(

  • @bigbuda01

I heard from a friend who studies there at the moment that they started with 60 Game design students and now there is under 20 due to them all bombing out.

  • @QantmKid haha yeah I was looking over that about 10 minutes after i posted that, i thought to myself im such an idiot
