i was on top of the wee tower in dunluce castle and there was some seriously heavy rain and of course i couldnt get my umbrella to fold up so i couldnt get down the stairs with it so i got pissed on for ages. watch for the water flowing down the steps.

Not sure how it works now exactly. I visited home last in 2004 with my then fiance. At the time I was unaware of the fences and unfortunately we arrived after closing time and I'm from Portadown so coming back to Dunluce the next day was not convenient. I really wanted her to see it so it was very dissapointing. Next time.
Greencastle is one of my favorites. I spent a great deal of my childhood there while on weekend trips to Cranfield.

its a shame yeah. it would have been so much better to wander about without being trailed by some muppet in a bright coloured raincoat, but i guess thats life. i do love that whole part of the country though.

this is an amazing place...especially when the weather is nice. grew up near there.
Too bad it isn't wide open anymore. Now it is gated. Before you could just walk in anytime without a guide and you'd often be the only one there. Same with many other castles and people treated them with respect. Maybe now they are concerned about vandals, but most likely it is about making money by charging a fee to get past the gates.
