Ask the PM - Fuel Duty

Here in Britain the majority of the cost of fuel IS TAX! The highest tax in Europe.

It all started in 1993 when Britain used to have one of the lowest taxes in Europe. Then the goverment brought in the Fuel Price Escalator.




The idea was to raise the tax on fuel 3% above inflation to put people off buying fuel so they would not have to develop the road systems. This later rose to 5% above inflation. Then 6% above inflation.

By 1999, Britain had the highest tax on fuel. In the year 2000 there were many protests about this ridiculous cost and in response the Fuel Tax Escalator was cancelled though the tax remained as it was.

Despite this, the goverment is still raising the tax.

In 2007 the tax on fuel went up another 2p per litre. Once again, the excuse was to deter people using fuel. History has shown that raising the cost does not deter use.

When Gordon Brown was asked what he is going to do about the rising cost of fuel he says that he won't raise the tax! Basically means he isn't going to do anything.

Britain is in a unique (and rather beneficial) position because we currently have an insanly high tax on fuel.

We can use that tax as a "buffer" to keep the cost of fuel stable! The rising cost of fuel is destroying the country. Businesses are closing down and people are losing thier homes.

The high tax on fuel effects EVERYTHING! every product requires fuel to produce and then to transport it. This is cost that the consumer will ultimatly pay for the final products.

The economy is crumbling and the goverment has the power to stop it and allow for a thriving industry that will bring in more foreign money.

So here is my question.

WHY IS THERE SUCH A HIGH DUTY ON FUEL???

VAT AND FUEL DUTY ON FUEL COMES IN AROUND 80% OF THE COST OF A LTR,THE REAL COST OF A LTR WITH OUT TAX WOULD BE AROUND £0.45 GIVE OR TAKE A FEW PENCE,COMPLAIN TO YOU MP AND MEP AND TELL THEM YOU WILL NOT VOTE FOR THEM UNLESS THERE IS ACTION TO REDUCE THIS GOVERMENT RIP OFF AS ITS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL,ASK YOUR MP HOW MUCH TAX IS ON A LTR OF FUEL AND SEE HOW THEY REACT!!!THEY FORGET PEOPLE PUT THEM IN POWER AND WE CAN GET THEM OUT AS WELL,THIS IS A SHAMBLES!!!!!

One main reason is they speculate with Oil at the Stock Exchange.

Even the Fact, that they found new large Oilfields or that Oil was cheaper at purchaising, the Broker keep the Price high.

I didn't believe there was such a thing as a "green tax" ?

There is good reason to beleive this. I know many people who are giving up their cars as a result of this or feel that they are being greener (which they prolly are). Therefore by logical reasoning HM Rev and Customs aint getting the income they once were and so the duties and taxes have to go up again.

You really should not beleive the hype about it being a green tax.

It may not be PC to say so, but the unfolding "drama" seems to be scripted - based on the writings of Ayn Rand.

England - like Amerika, apparently - has become a land of victims forced to support an ever increasing burden of "entitled" parasites.

I have mixed feelings about the whole debacle. While I don't like to see people suffering due to circumstances beyond their control, much of this is a direct result of gov meddling.

Via taxes, the "entitled" are killing the golden goose "middle class".
