This video was made to demonstrate that the G scale played on the G row, on the right hand side, is not so daunting as it may seem at first. To over-emphasize the point, first I play the tune with four fingers, as would be normal, followed by the entire scale going up and down using only one finger at a time. I do this for each of the four fingers of my right hand. I did not loosen my straps past where they normally would be, which might have been easier. The entire video took 10 minutes of run throughs, proceeded by a quick check before attempting to video, as I myself was not sure If it was possible. It was easy to get each of the scale on one finger, but not easy to get all run throughs without mistakes in one shot.
The fingering for the four-fingered scale is high E, F#, and G all played on the pinkie, jumping back and forth. In every day playing, I would probably stay in the so-called "second position" for a few notes after jumping for F#. Obviously for the rest of them it is only one finger per all eight notes of the scale. There are points where it may seem I am using another finger, but I assure you I am not and that is just a trick of the camera as I have to adjust the angle of my hand to get good finger placement for certain notes.
Although this is just a demonstration, it could definitely be used as an exercise. If you do not have a C/G, just use your inside row. It could possible be done on the middle or outside row, but I haven't tried it out, and it would probably require loosening of the straps. I keep my straps very tight, and yet I still managed to reach all the buttons by pulling my hands in and out of the straps, and by adjusting the angle.
