he's actually both.. an autistic savant, very rare
-
you can just count it (as the drummer does) in 7/4 - 7/4 - 5/8, but still it's good.

This time signature certainly has a good swing to it ^-^

Hey everyone! You can find later videos of me at my new channel "mattsavagejazz." I was 14 in this video; I'm 18 now.
-
I think Matt has it phrased as a compound 7/4+7/4+5/8.
-
wouldn't it just be 4 regular bars of 32 8th notes plus 1 beat. Even though I tried counting it this way I didnt come even close to landing on any of the downbeats. Its seems as though there are many odd subdivisions within the the head and maybe an underlying hemiola perhaps. Either way nicely down!

@JPBerkleeDude - You're at Berklee? Funny... I'm also at Berklee! Maybe we'll see each other sometime.
You can check out some newer videos of me at the channel "mattsavagejazz".

At the beginning.

not really, they're all one away from an even time signature....haha
The entire show is available at the Kennedy Center website (see Millenium Stage performances). The video and audio quality is similar to what we have here.
There is more video coming from the recent CD release party at Bosendorfer in New York. Both the video quality and audio are better. I am working on this now and should have something in a few days.
