Hang Power Cleans
Hang Full Cleans
Power Cleans (from the floor)
Full Cleans (from the floor)

Some simple instructions on the difference between all of these, and lots of examples of the lifts from a side-view, at full-speed and half-speed.

Key points:
1. NEVER "pull" with the arms
2. Once the bar passes the knees, accelerate HARD by straightening up your back and legs as fast as possible - this is NOT an athletic "jumping" movement: it's just standing up as fast as you can
3. This middle portion of the lift should be identical no matter what weight you're using or what variation you're performing

Hang = start with the bar already off the floor. It can be anywhere from mid-shin to knee-height, to mid-thigh to waist-height, depending on your goals
Power = refers to the RECEIVING POSITION, which is with the legs above parallel
Full/Squat = refers to the RECEIVING POSITION, which is in a full squat
From the floor = as it sounds...
Full (also "Squat")

  • I previously only did clean+press and clean+push-press, and I've been working on the clean+jerk lately and I needed this video to help explain what I could do. Thanks! =) I'll try with a lighter barbell than I currently lift, so I don't mess up the hip action and drop the bar XD

  • Nice vid... been looking for stuff this thus..

  • Perfect, thanks for makin the vid! really really needed slow-mo demonstrations

  • Excellent video. I particularly like the sound you make on those squat cleans, he.

  • Thanks.. very good, I was looking for a good visual of all the variations

  • Very good. I love these lifts.

  • Thankyou. I will rep you on the other site as well.

  • Good pointers. If most people posting 'power clean' videos on youtube were doing them as you described, they would actually receive some benefits of Oly lifting.
