@Antstomat Pike are an ambush predator, and the faster the bait moves, the less time they have to think about whether or not they want the bait, enticing them to strike more.

he whips it out, reels in right away and jerks the rod, and it just goes flooding all over the place. 2:18

@Antstomat they go after fast things, i have a creek by my house that is full of pike, carp, gar-pike, and also perch. i use perch for bait that i found morely in the shallower ends

@cantthinkanameup Yes my rod has a 15 pound test on it and when i use my rapala rattler it he hit's at least 2 times Northern pike are known for biting one time so more hooks the more chance you have of setting the hook.

I've never had a problem with hook sets on pike ever. They usually hit it so aggressively that they do all the work for you. At least thats my opinion from here in Alberta.

these guys are cant fish, all talk, yet, when they dont catch anything, oohhh ya...theres a cold front...right...
I use way bigger body baits than that. I start out with a rapala F-18 size bait. Think about it, pike are carnivores and why would a 40" fish want to eat a 3" long lure? Pike are similar to muskies, big bait leads to big reward, especially in the summer months. Spoons are great too, but size is everything. Start big, then go to smaller baits if you don't catch anything. But when you are pike fishing, bigger is usually better.
