A cinematic masterpiece, pure and simple!
All performances hit bulls eye; adapted screenplay by Odets and Lehman, cinematography by James Wong Howe, and direction by Alexander Mackendrick, nothing less than brilliant.
I was too young to have gone to nite clubs then, but I remember Times Sq. in 1957 and it wasn’t such a nice place. The smell of hot dogs and orange soda from Nedick’s, adult movies, cheap game arcades. Think Midnight Cowboy a decade earlier.
