Thank God for Al Franken. Read his books... about the most informed senator the US will have. He's a heck of a lot more informed than too many in the GOP...

Knowledge does not necessarily translate into ability, wisdom, intelligence, or character...

If he can let go of his irrational hatred and stop embracing the false spin from the extreme left (unlikely since he has embraced it so thoroughly to this point).. but if he can, perhaps he will be effective. otherwise, he will just be another annoying screeching voice from the far left.

I loved his books... there is a heck of a lot of research done in them... Wisdom? That depends on your politics, doesn't it?

Yes and no. For example, is it wise to simply repeat conventional wisdom that is held as fact by one group without doing basic research into historical statements & documentation before adding to the chorus of disdain for something or someone?

As a radio show host, he could get away with playing to his crowd, but as a senator he would better serve his country by checking the facts before taking a position. There is no wisdom in believing you have knowledge when it is obtained through a filter.

for every one example of al franken saying something that's not well researched/not true I will give you five examples of blatent lies/out of context quotes by any of the major right wing "news" commentators (coulter, hannity, o'reilly, beck etc)

Al Franken is the most rational politician I have ever seen.

The right is populated almost exclusively with irrational bullies.

The only thing that Al Franken hates is liars.

Bush DID say all those things that Franken said that he said.

The other guys in the interview is trying to be intentionally deceptive.

Franken does not like it.

Neither do I.

Neither should you.

Al stands up for the truth and does not let himself get pushed around by lying right wing airbags.

But everything that Franken says is substantiated by data / research / facts. That is the whole reason why I like him. Also he seems far less interested in Obfuscating the truth than the other guy. All that Franken was commenting on the Presidents Boken war promises. Then the other guy starts to talk about something his own column as though somehow if his column was less of a lie than the presidents that it would some how vindicate the president. uh what?

yanikv, i totally agree. it's nice to see a Democrat who can be just as rabid as the Republicans, but he somehow manages to sound a lot better than they do, not sure why. Franken is known for calling people out on their lies or misrepresentations of the truth. i'm willing to grant that, in this instance, he is repeating things that a lot of people knew already, but that doesn't change the fact that he's right.
