The President asked me to submit a question on health care reform and take part in an ongoing online discussion.

My Question:

First, Mr. President, let me apologize for having to rely on the pseudo-anonymity of the Internet to pose this question, for of fear of losing my job and potential future employment due to marijuana discrimination fostered by a 'free' nation.

Mr. President, are you going to allow the health care industry to target marijuana users, and discriminate against them? Are you going to endow 'mandatory' health insurance with the ability to screen all citizens for marijuana use, with punitive implications?

You foster marijuana discrimination: denying jobs, student loans, VA medical benefits, medical procedures, the list goes on. Why should freedom loving American's trust their prohibitionist government to reform health care?

Mr. President, our prisons are the largest in the world: a 'judicious' use of taxpayer dollars. Since 1977, more than 20 million people have been arrested for simple possession of marijuana. In fact, just last week, 29 year old Theresa Anthony died in prison while serving a '2 week' sentence for marijuana possession. Why should freedom loving American's trust their prohibitionist government to reform health care?

You cannot accomplish something as simple and straight-forward as cannabis regulation, for all the good it would do, so I find it hard to believe that prohibitionist, crony capitalism will credibly reform health care.

Please do not discredit marijuana law reform as being irrelevant to the topic of health care reform. Such an accusation would be profoundly untrue, and a lot of voters know it. In fact, Dr. Dean Edell recently stated that cannabis prohibition may have set cancer research back by 30 years, because it is so difficult to obtain permission to do scientific research on quality cannabis. A recent study has shown cannabinoids to prevent the spread of head and neck cancers; which is but one aspect of an astonishingly medicinal herb: an herb currently acknowledged by the government as a Schedule 1 narcotic having no medicinal value! Utter incompetence! Why should freedom loving American's trust their prohibitionist government to reform health care?!

Will you laugh this issue off (again)? My being your slave is not funny to me, so I ask you to please reconsider marijuana prohibition?

I ABHOR big pharma. They have ruined my life, and the lives of so many others. Their drugs are more damaging than most illegal drugs, IMO.

I had been on about 25 different medications from the ages of 7 to 20, and their pills made me absolutely psychotic, even homicidal/suicidal. I've been off these pills 13 months, and I'm not that much better off YET. If I hadn't quit those pills, I would be dead or in prison right now. I could go on all day, but YouTube only allows 500 character comments.

Very true. Thank you. Follow the profit. If big Pharma is is losing cash, they will do anything to change that. Their lobbyists are paralyzing health care reform. Hiring protesters, tv ads, paying for air time by buying newscasters/reporters on major networks. Good job..Peace and hugs.

I agree with this comment. These pills are absolutely dangerous, and they fucked me up so much that while I was on them, I was suicidal, and often EXTREMELY violent and psychotic. I quit them 13 months ago.

Ever since I quit them, I still have an unholy fuckton of withdrawal symptoms (involving nervous twitches, electric shocks, anger, depression, my brain rattling, anxiety, weakness, nerve pain, and occasional panic attacks), but even THAT is better than what those pills have done to me.

I have honestly seen more damage from pharma pills than any other drug and I've been pretty deep into that rabbit hole. I stopped all drugs (including tobacco) except weed but I thank god that I never was a downer kind of personality. Pills, when abused, are more addicting and apt to alter who you are than any illegal drug from what I have witnessed. If anyone that reads this is on pain pills or nerve pills, you better take them the way your supposed to.
