12. Some of our best creative minds are employed to create illusions that divert us from the real issues and manufacture our consent. Beyond their products, the corporation sells us the idea of a better way of life and produces propaganda that affirms their power as necessary for human progress.

  • OMG people just can't be satisfied with anything! YOU ARE VIEWING IT FREE on YOU TUBE for god's sake! JEEZ, we are totally doomed when we have idiots who think they know it all engaging in "GOTCHA" acts! Think of this film like PBS, it takes money and man hours to create a film. Nothing is truly free. I cringe everytime I see an idiotic comment suggesting that the creator of this film is being hypocritical and sly by bombarding us with ads, and then seeing a reply from Mr. Achbar.

  • @coloniaIVU People have developed a sense of entitlement around free content which will lead to more and more "embedded" ads. I guess we could have gone the product placement route, but I doubt we'd have had any takers. Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • funny, I am watching Resident Evil 3 with this documentary at the same time. Umbrella Corporation, pretty much screwed the whole world in the movie. But of course, those things happen only in the movies. In real life, we have nice friendly, humane, corporations that would not do bad things for humans and for humanity. They are falsy being accused by environmentalists etc. They would never ever harm anyone. Those who are harmful, are Muslims so we have to trust those corporation against Muslims.

  • @Fussinated Factoid: Resident Evil Apocalypse is the only Canadian-financed (20%) feature film which outgrossed The Corporation in Canada in the year it came out.

  • @kanaak777 There is a cotinent called Africa that was doing well untill the domination of captalism. So, for a small company to grow and become a global institution how many African nations should go into caos, so that its natural resources should be obtained cheap? And of course, we also should close our eyes to the fact that due to capitalistic economy, there is not one single nation that is not in debt. Means justify the cause and means is more wealth that's what capitalism is about.

  • @kanaak777

Bring from Poland you should fuckin better know better. How'd that Communism treat ya?

  • @kanaak777

The corporations still have to sell their goods or services to people that want them, so corporations can only stay in business by pleasing enough customers to pay the bills. If everyone hated a company it wouldn't last a month.

  • @telemetry9 Pfff... wow. You really broke the system here... (humble notice: this IS sarcasm)

  • @jjrglobal First of all... not really since today businesses can start its existence with millions at disposal due to special type of deals on stock exchange. Secondly the prime motive is the profit maximization. IF (huge emphasis here) any social benefits occure, this are positive externalities. The thing in Capitalism as it stands now is that you can become wealthy only by maximizing your profits and thus: aiming for high efficiency, productivity, low costs et cetera...

  • Great video, check out the documentary "Century of the Self" by Adam Curtis he goes into the same sort of thing but in much greater detail, very interesting and informative.

  • @otherside65

EVERY huge corporation was at one time a small business, nothing more than a persons or a few peoples idea. The really great ideas flourished and became bigger and bigger over time by selling products or services that their fellow man desired. The really big corporations just did it better than everyone else, thats how they became so big. Thats the thing about Capitalism, you can only become wealthy by improving your fellow mans living standard.

  • @jjrglobal theres a big difference between a company and a huge corporation with stock holders. these differences obviously imply a difference in operations, but then again for all the shit youre talking, you should already know this shouldnt you?

  • very similar to marx's theory of "false consciousness" great vid, thx :)
