This youtube video shows what if the catenary wires were built down from Washingtion DC were they end down to Petersburg VA as part of the new high speed rail lines they want to build though the State of Virginia from Washingtion DC to North Carolina. The new North East Cost Corridor catenary wires would allow trains to reach 110 miles an hour to 150 down from Washingtion DC to Petersburg VA.
This video might be viewing into the future in that the State of Virginia is working on making the CSX mainline from Washingtion DC to Petersburg three tracks wide all the way and they did mention several ideas about adding catenary wires to it from the end of the catenary in Washingtion DC to Petersburg VA.
Catenary wires are not new to the State of Virginia the Virginia Railway at one time in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA once had over a 132 miles of over head catenary wires that powered trains from 1925 to 1962 but were pulled down and chopped into scrap metal in 1962 in favor of gas powered trains. But that was short sighted and it took place at a time when gas was only a few cents a gallon now with gas running the risk of going up to $4 bucks a gallon we may need to start stringing catenary wires again in VA.
The reason why I picked out Pennsyvinia and Virginia type catenary masts is that well this is the NEC and it has a very cool type of catenary that tell it apart from the short catenary masts in Europe and Japan. But if you look closely at the masts in the photos they have high speed rail up grades on them such as the catenary mast brackets used on modern high speed rail lines in Europe and Japan. So if were going to extend the catenary to Richmond let's make sure we use NEC type Steel H beam Catenary type masts that are made in the US and not stuff imported from other counties.
CM& St P was supposed to be electrified to the Pacific, but our capitalist oil companies do not like things that don't smoke. Many of CM& St P's new electrics were sold to the USSR. They realized a train going down hill can help power one going up hill. Now when a diesel electric used its dynamic brakes all the energy is wasted as heat. Electrified railways make good sense in this greener economy. I hope to see it happen. Phoenix now has light rail, but it is kind of a joke right now.

@Satchmoeddie The Pennsyvinia Railroad in my eletric railroads book tried to go to Pittsburg in the 1930's with plans of having full eletric trains running to Pittisburg in the 1940's but they stopped the planned building of it in the 1940's do to world war two and also the cheap diesels coming out in the 1950's. Conrail also had a fight with Amtrak which made Conrail cut the power to the fast eletric empire of the Rome of Railroads. Oddly though there has been talks of studying this project.

@RedShadow1917 I picked out the song under the youtube free songs part it's under easy listening folk music. The song might have the name Rivers in it.
The free songs part of youtube seems to be growing fast lately in the number of songs they have. The nice part about is youtube and the copyright people are made happy with it.

@OceanRailroader How did you access the free songs part?
RedShadow1917 1 year ago
@RedShadow1917 There is a feature on the youtube videos called autio swap which allows you to replace a copy righted song with a free song on their free list of songs which shows up atomaticly when you hit the button autio swap. You can also use autio swap on videos that have no music on them too. The free list on youtube is very large with at least 500 songs on it but it is quickly growing it will take a little time to go though all the songs.
