It was explained that thereafter some sort of technological advance occurred which made warping while in the solar system safe.

why did star trek the motion picture make a big deal of warp drive whilst in the solar system when they did it all the time after wards?

this is probably how warp drive would look like in real life , no flashy streaks or anything and without the star flash in the end lol

FINALLY!! After some 40-some-odd years, the original ship is shown going into warp. I am sure Gene wanted this effect when he was still around.

Now THAT, is an entering warp speed act. Might want to work on the nacelles light up a bit.
