@coatduck you probably got 40 dollars worth of magnetic wire on this particular mot, but ifyou got the money to spend it sure beats the labor, but anyways can beat the price of this wire

i opened up a transformer last year and i saw the wire and im like, JACKPOT, but after about 3 hours of trying to get it open i just gave up

@TommyDeBest You might try using a die grinder if you have access to an air compressor. They have a much thinner disc than a grinder and will usually go through material faster. Just a thought.

i found a thicker wheel grinds the weld better, the thiner wheel only grinded about half the weld.

Take a apart a CRT tv I found a ton of magnet wire in it

Just hacked an old discarded transformer last night like you did .I was lucky it was very clean, just had to clean the adhesive residue after removing the outside covering tape.. I also hacked a ballast but the wire is too fine it breaks during unwinding due to the paint like the coil in your video. I was looking for a good primary for Tesla Coil.
