  • dozens of versions were made, the basic one had an mg 42. but this seems like the sdkfz 251/9 version with a short 75 mm gun. they had many of those guns in stock after the panzer III became obsolete, so they just placed those guns on halftracks so they wouldn't be lost. pretty smart move, because this version could kill tanks at short range and support tank-less infantry.

    the panzer III "N" was equipped with the 75mm KwK 37 L/24 gun, when the Pz IV came out, the N production was stopped because they were absolete. the stug III also had a version with this gun, when production was stopped, the remaining stock parts were used on other tanks, including the placement of the short 75mm on halftracks and recon vehicles.
