have no clue about this! (See the Sheridan clips on youtube. In ages up to Cadet maybe even domestic Juniors talented athletes can overcome this but later at senior and world cup levels these systems break down! You can be the fastest fencer in the world but if your opponent knows when your student will start their lunge or stop their attack no amount of tricks will put them on a US senior team or a world cup final.)

1.) Convincing the ref that you have right of way with both hand and foot tempo.
2.) Teaching the student to make actions at speeds that are effective. (The best technical advance lunge in the world won't help if it's 1/2 world cup speed.)
3.) And teaching the student to move their body in a way that doesn't give prior info to the opponent! (At least unintentional prior info!)
Most of our top coaches in the US have forgotten about #3... And many of the beginning level coaches (above)

I have been looking for a good online video for sabre fencing and this is the only one I have found on all of Youtube. I have seen this coach do sabre lessons and they are terrible but his footwork is the best of the best! It looks like a mixture of solid Hungarian with the French feel. The French school is very different for sabre now under Durrell but the basic footwork here in this video is GREAT! Sabre coaches must remember it's still about three things: (above)
