Stryper, originally known as Roxx Regime, was formed in Orange County, California by brothers Michael and Robert Sweet and guitarist Oz Fox.
Stryper stands for Salvation Through Redemption Yielding Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness. The Isaiah 53:5 under their logo is the bible verse that states "by His stripes we are healed". The band earned their stripes on the Los Angeles metal club circuit and in 1984, after recruiting bass player Tim Gaines, signed with Enigma Records and released their debut mini-album, The Yellow And Black Attack (Y&BA).
Their first full-length release, Soldiers Under Command (SUC), sold over half a million units worldwide in the eighties, and stayed on Billboard's Top 200 album chart for over forty weeks. In addition to the hard-rocking tunes that Stryper's core audience has come to expect, the ballad "Honestly" from their platinum selling 1986 release To Hell With The Devil (THWTD) hit the Top-40 charts. The video for "Honestly" rapidly became the number one most-requested video on M-TV. 1988 saw the near-platinum release of In God We Trust (IGWT), as well as renewed success on M-TV, which was bombarded by thousands of phone requests for "Always There For You".
In January of 1992, Michael Sweet left the Stryper to pursue a solo career. Although officially Robert Sweet, Oz Fox and Tim Gaines continued as a three piece for another year, there were no further studio recordings as Stryper once Mike left.
On May 21st of 2000, history was made when Stryper hit the stage again for an informal jam at the first annual Stryper expo in New Jersey. December 16th of 2000 marked the first full blown set preformed by Stryper in 9 years, held in Costa Rica. The second annual Stryper expo was held in Azusa, California on May 18th and 19th of 2001. The two day expo featured multiple bands and vendors, with Stryper closing the expo with a concert. Shortly after, Stryper played to one of their largest crowds at Cornerstone in Bushnell, Illinois on July 7th, 2001.
On August 19, 2007, Michael Sweet performed with the Legendary rock band Boston at a concert honoring the voice of Boston, the late Brad Delp. Stryper then performed with Boston members at the Station Family Fund Concert on February 25, 2008. Later that year, Boston tapped Michael Sweet to sing for them during their summer tour.
Exactly 25 years after their ground breaking release of the Y&BA, Murder By Pride (MBP) was released on July 21, 2009. At the time of this writing, Stryper is set to embark on their 25th Anniversary Tour in September of 2009. Reuniting for the tour, Tim Gaines will once again play bass. Stryper will also reunite with yellow & black clothing designed by Ray Brown, whom created their classic outfits for THWTD and IGWT.
Stryper.com was officially launched in November of 1999 by Craig Erskine and Brett Christensen. In 2003 Craig handed the web design duties over to Greg Hayes. In 2009, Jeff Wollschlager took over as webmaster, working closely with Brett to develop the site you're currently on. Stryper is managed by Deep South Entertainment, and works with Stryper.com to help keep the fire burning!

@DietDoktahPeppur Not sure where you get that "fact" since The Ten Commandments were for all men. Remember that Jesus was Torah ("the Word became Flesh" in english) where these appear in Exodus (and re-told in Deuteronomy). Remember Christians didn't exist until Pentecost, so there is a huge gap in time for your theology. Here's a real fact concerning the Ten Commandments - there are actually 613 Commandments spread all around the Torah. Jesus said if you love me you'll keep my Commandments.

@standingontruth1 Fun fact, the ten commandments are actually aimed at non Christians. How ever, we still represent God, so we should follow them too, but we're not going to burn in hell if we look at a woman with lust.

Are you ready?
Have u lied? Have u stolen? Jesus said if you look at a women with lust you have committed adultery with here in your heart?
If God judge’s u by the Ten Commandments will u be innocent or guilty? Does this concern you? The Bible says despise the value of your eye compared to the value of your soul. would u sell your i for a million dollars? And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. needgod.com
