This car is owned by my missus and me. It's completely original and unrestored apart from a respray about 20 years ago. Engine is the Rambler 327ci V8 and it has the optional 4bbl Holley carburator. Car also has power brakes and power steering. No AC or power windows though.

  • How did you get the dash lights so bright??

  • @stevemgb1 I haven't touched the dash lights. They are as they have always been.

  • I've always had a childhood memory of my mother pointing out the transmission controls in my grandmother's Rambler, which had multicolored lighted push buttons. I was never sure if it actually happened, was a dream, or if I was just looking at the idiot lights thinking it was the transmission. I guess it was real. Is the big red button at 03:12 for some kind of start up mode, maybe to activate the choke?

  • Actually it's the button for reverse gear. Yellow one next to it engages neutral and also acts as a start button. Smaller green ones are D2 (starts at 2nd gear, not 1st), D1 for normal driving (all 3 gears are in use) and L (1st gear only).

Glad you like the car :)

  • This may be the best station wagon video I have come across. It is now on my playlist, "The Station Wagon Show!" How did you do the camera work?

  • Well, I was sorta... holding the camera in my hand the whole time? :)

Seriously though, that's what I did.

  • Erittäin asiallinen auto + video, kiitos.

  • Thanks for the ride in your Rambler. My parents bought a 1962 Cross Country wagon in late '61 after they were married and had it for 14 years. It still ran but the axles rotted out and the car was too dangerous to drive. I cried when they got rid of it. I did keep the cigarette lighter, the rubber covers from the clutch and brake pedals, the steering wheel hub with the big "R", and the tailgate key. I still have 'em! Thanks for the memories; I miss our Rambler.

  • Beautiful car! My uncle had one brand new, it was dark green, I was 5 years old and I'll never forget opening up the back door and seeing that plush green carpeting and I thought that was the most beautiful luxurious thing I had ever seen. None of our much older cars even had carpeting, lol.

  • ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL CAR! Brings back fond memories of our '61 & '62 AMC's!

Your neighborhood looks very much like Canada or US suburban areas. Thank you for taking us on that pleasant ride into the past, I really enjoyed it!

  • Very nice car!

  • Anyway, what a beautiful station wagon.

Thanks for taking us for a ride. I had a 61 Classic 3 years ago with a 195 six cyl. Just barely enough power, nothing extra.

It was the same color as your wagon. I regret selling it now.....

  • ncguy64, if that was a 61 Classic, it had the 250 cu. in. engine. 200 hp with 2 bbl carb, and 215 hp with 4 bbl. The 327 was not an option for the Classic....

  • Ird9999, You are correct sir. You know Ramblers pretty good, except for the choke thing, LOL.
