Arai Corsair V Review

The all new Corsair-V replaced its top of the line Arai RX-7 Corsair and was launched in September 2008. Arai's main focus is on the experienced rider who knows what to look for in a good helmet. Michio Arai, the current president and son of the family-owned company's founder comments "... if a design does not help make a helmet better at doing this job, protecting the rider and giving the rider better fit and comfort, we do not do it. Arai is in the helmet business, not the fad or fashion business." Here is our Arai Corsair V Review.

Slipping on the new Arai Corsair V is a luxurious experience. It is quite light yet it feels very balanced when strapped on perhaps due tothe lower centre of gravity provided by the Hyper ridge band. Peripheral vision where every millimeter counts is excellent because of the Arai Corsair V helmet's wider eyeport. The helmet comfortably accommodates eyeglasses into temple-area slots in the lining. The Ventilation is impressive. The finish is exceptional with deep paintwork and a thick clear coat to minimise dings.

The Arai Corsair V does not look radically different from the previous RX-7 but its new features of the helmet are

Arai's compact organic shell shape is even more compact and aerodynamic than its predecessor
Glove friendly larger upper vent toggles to open the vents.
A new vent cowl exhausts heat efficiently and adds lateral stability at speed
A face shield brow vent sends intake air to the temple and not your face and this air exits via the side vents for maximum cooling
Wider helmet visor eye port increases the rider's peripheral vision and great for racers.
Flush fitting face shield is wider because of the wider eyeport.
Peripheral belting across the forehead area of the shell increases the structural integrity of the helmet whilst maintaining its low weight and larger shell size
Patented adjustable AirWing reduces drag, turbulence and buffeting.
Chose from 5 adjustable attack angles for race speeds, normal sport bike riding or for upright riding.
Emergency cheek pad release system with integrated pull-tabs so paramedics can remove the helmet quicker
Vented neckroll which can be removed or replaced. It also has an additional exhaust channel to remove interior heat
Larger bottom opening promotes ease of use
Dry-Cool liner repositioned rear mounting-snaps closer to the liner bottom for a better fit
It is one of the expensive helmets on the market. But we are talking about protecting your brain. This is an expensive helmet but it guarantees high levels of satisfaction. Remember Arai was awarded the best scores for the 12th consecutive year in customer satisfaction in the JD Power helmet survey. The Arai Corsair V is not just an expensive helmet it is a great helmet too. It meets or exceds every major industry safety standard and with innovative features like quick-release cheek pads, the Corsair V has your best interest at its heart.

Nicky Hayden's custom Arai that he rode at the Indianapolis MotoGP and auctioned at ebay for the Make a Wish Foundation sold for $5,800. Now that is an expensive helmet.
