At the now closed Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland Ohio there was a statue called Laughing Sal that depicted a woman who laughed constantly. Many people couldnt help but laugh with her but others, mostly kids, were terrified.
I used to have nightmares about Sal trapping me in a bathroom stall lol! I was about 5 at the time. I've seen her a few times at Euclid Square Mall and it doesn't surprise me that a kid would be scared lol.
@yekyrneh The Humphrey family owned Euclid Beach Park. Laffing Sam was removed at the request of Mrs. Humphrey, who believed that, as he laughed, his hip area had a suggestive appearance. (True story, as confirmed by Euclid Beach historians).
Laffing Sal and Laffing Sam were made by the Phildelphia Toboggan Company, that made the roller coasters and carousel for the park. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in California has the Laffing Sal from the long closed Playland Park in San Francisco. Search Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Laffing or Laughing Sal, and there are videos of her in action.
To watch the original Euclid Beach Park Laffing Sal in action, go to: "Euclid Beach Mall Show Euclid Square Mall September 24th 1994" which is posted by: conneautlakepark1892. Although she now has an "on demand" button, at Euclid Beach there was no button to push. She just laughed non-stop all day long, from the time the park opened until it closed at night!
The correct spelling of her name is LAFFING SAL. Google it. Sal never scared me as a young boy in the 1960's. I used to stare at her for a long time, and found her quite amusing! I also remember her partner Laffing Sam. Sam broke down and was removed from display, but Sal just kept laughing away until the park closed. Thanks for the memories.
I used to be secretly ashamed of the fact that ol' Sal scared the pee out of me when I was a kid visiting Euclid Beach. Now I have found a support group! Thank you all! LOL
