Lay down newspaper (the old glass may splinter some when removing). I used a flat head eyeglass screwdriver and plastic credit card. I bought the replacement glass on eBay for about $10.00.

  • omg thanks you so much but where did you get the glass from

  • I bought the glass on eBay for like $9 or something. Matrix is right on with his comment about the glass splintering if you are not careful. Might want to wear glasses just in case!

  • would this work on the v6 razr aswell theres glass you buy on ebay but im not 100% shore it comes off the same way because half the planet is useless and wont make 1 of v6 razr:< nice vid but you helped alot of us razr fans

  • I haven't worked on a V6 personally, but I'd bet that it's just stuck on with adhesive like the V3 and Krazr.

  • OK, I found out two days later that it was the earphone speaker I trashed. The speaker is attached by a flat copper cable to the back of the lens.

If you are attempting this replacement, try heating the glass slightly with a hair dryer to soften the glue holding the lens in place, then use the credit card to lift the lens with great care!

  • Changed the front lens on my V9 yesterday but I found there was an electrical connection under it leading to a copper sheet stuck to the lens. The copper sheet is stuck much harder to the lens than the phone base making it difficult to very remove. I am not sure what this part does - perhaps it shows characters on the screen? I removed it along with the lens not knowing it was there and broke the lead. Phone still works OK, but just a warning to you if you are about to change your glass..

  • hey i have that same broken glass too . i made a hole for the camera. that came out really good man . wish me luck.

  • Thanks, I tried this and thought I was breaking it so I left it - I will try it again now I see it works. Ebay has the glass for sale

  • i would have left the plastic on the front of it lol then it would be like having a new phone again

  • hey there delilah by teh plain white T's

  • Excellent video. MAKE SURE YOU WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. The glue holding the lens down is very tough to cut through when the lens is shattered or pin-holed. When you pull up with the card, a tiny piece of glass can fly off.

  • Thanx man... Mine got wet I couldnt dry it out very well so i just took it off and dried myself! thanx a bunch!

  • Using a credit card was smart!! I didn't even think of that - I used a craft knife the last time I swapped out my cover, but scuffed some of the phone in the process. I'll use your trick this time around...
