The Bravery - Slow Poison - San Jose, Live, Sat. 10-31-09, The Blank Club, 1st row, HD. Well, it doesn't get any closer than this.. 1 step closer and I'd be on stage with 'em. Great Halloween show, performed in costume too..

The whole band, with the exception of lead singer Sam Endicott, wore a costume to the show. Almost everybody in the audience, including the bartenders was wearing a costume as well.

This performance was not actually a part of The Bravery's official tour. Channel 92.3 set this up at The Blank Club with Great Northern opening. The club is an ultra-small venue... about the size of a 3-car garage. The ~12 foot quarter-circle stage is in the corner, and the front row is less than arm's reach of the band. It would have been nice if the red stage lighting wasn't so dim, but it was a great concert regardless. You can see more pictures of the club on their website.

The Costumes:

Guitarist Michael Zakarin had the most complicated costume, wearing a pig-nose with bushy eyebrows and a moustache, with a jeans vest and a long-sleeve shirt which made it appear as if he had tattoos all over his arms. Endicott joked in between songs that Michael's costume was "rather scary, because you don't know exactly where the costume ends..."

Bassist Mike Hindert wore a red devil's mask. In the video, you might notice the end of the guitar flying into frame every once in a while. I was so close to the stage that when Hindert twisted his body to the beat, I often had to lean back to avoid getting hit in the face by the instrument's headstock.

Drummer Anthony Burulcich wore an ogre mask as he walked on stage, but quickly found it too hard to wear while drumming during the first song and took it off.

Keyboardist John Conway wore long blonde hair and glasses with a Flashing Equalizer T-Shirt.

Lead Singer Sam Endicott remarked that "I was wondering why some people from the audience were yelling out "We're not worthy!", then I noticed that these two guys were dressed up as Wayne and Garth (from the movie Wayne's World)."

Other Tidbits:

At the end of the last song, Sam Endicott put down his guitar and left the stage. And, since I was within arm's reach, I leaned over and picked up his pick, a Tortex Dunlop.

Surprisingly, even though The Blank Club is a music venue, they serve all their drinks in a real glass, which was quite nice. The band was provided with bottles of Corona during the set.

There is no backstage... When the concert was over, the band just went outside through the Exit door you can see in the background of the video.
