Furthermore, the icebergs are frozen FRESH water, whereas the ocean is SALT water. Salt water is more dense than fresh water. This means that a fresh water ice cube has greater volume than the weight of the salt water that is displacing it. When this fresh water ice melts, it contributes more volume than it orginally displaced when it was a solid.
