You don't need to install anything to use Skype on the Nokia N900, it has Skype support built-in. All you need to do is enter your existing Skype username and password, or register for a new account. This video goes through the basics of Skype on the N900.

I think people are so surprised by how tightly the VOIP accounts are integrated, they don't expect to be able to find Skype in the main settings page. :)
If you use VOIP and IMs, you can avoid using the phone network completely except for mobile data. It handles them all just like "real" calls and texts.

and that is why I did not expect it that way. Most providers will not allow VoIP traffic unless you pay some steep fee, at least in Germany.
Luckily O2, my provider, allows it but I will probably only use it from wifi because my Internet plan only comes with 200MB high speed Internet. After that it is throttled but I am not complaining, it is only €10 per month.

Wherever you live, mobile data is a LOT cheaper now than it was five years ago. It is going to get even cheaper as 4G arrives, and as there is more competition from non-phone wireless systems.

It says the track and artist name at the end of the video.
All of these videos have the music credits at the end. These are all free Creative Commons tracks, you can download them legally from the artists' websites.
