Smoothing the single action trigger pull on a S&W revolver can be a safe and easy job if you have the right tools. Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, explains the process for smoothing the single action trigger pull on a Smith and Wesson revolver using a Power Custom Sear Stoning Fixture. He begins by disassembling the revolver and removing the trigger. Once the trigger is clamped to the fixture and the unit is adjusted for the proper angle, a fine India stone is used to true of the sear surfaces. A bit of layout dye is applied to the sear during this process so that progress can be monitored. Once the surface has been polished, the trigger is lubricated and placed back into the revolver. The final step is to check the trigger pull with a pull gage.

  • If I knew how to smooth the trigger perhaps I would, but that's what Im watching these vids for. Unfortunately, the 90 second vidoes dont do much to educate me.. Perhaps they should mention the TV show if it's going to go into further detail? Else, whats the purpose of the thing?? If its to be instructional, they need to show some instruction..

  • Larry Potterfield remind's me of G-man from Half Life 2, when he speak's

  • @jingles373 agreed.. although I too would prefer they go further into detail, they are trying to run a business, not a charity

  • I think some people are missing the point: these type of postings are more for advertising than education.

  • It's a good 90 sec intro to what you can start with but for a more comprehensive "how to" get the 2 hr "Trigger Job" DVD by Jerry Miculek. It's well worth the price if you're serious. In stoning the surface of the parts you won't be going through the hardness layer, you're not taking that much off. Also Wolff springs help a lot on the trigger pull!

  • To all of the people complaining that he doesn't show you how to remove the trigger.......If you lack the mechanical skills to remove the trigger, or the common sense to look at the exploded view in the manual, then you're not really the best candidate to be monkeying around with any firearm.

  • I as well enjoy these videos but would like a bit more detail. if there is a full length show it would be great to have a link to it.

  • I would really enjoy doing this with my snob, but as most have mentioned, it simply lacks enough detail for the average tinkerer.

  • Hi, Good question. It just LOOKS freehand. The rear of the stone is riding the jig to the left off screen.

  • If you are stoning & filing "freehand" why do you still need a jig?
