the inebriated self is not the self ur hoping to be. it is becoming the self ur escaping from, the one u hide from the world, the animal force in humanity. it is a destructive force. to keep a balance is the ideal i would think, to carry yourself as you want to carry yourself.. this sloppy drunk kerouac is not in top form. if you think thats admirable and that alcohol is only a positive force then drink up and then you can see how long it takes until you stop feeling like yourself.

Great talents are the most lovely and often the most dangerous fruits on the tree of humanity. They hang upon the most slender twigs that are easily snapped off.

i can see that, but do you truely believe he was just merely being naive/ignorant on what he was doing? He knew what time it was, and that made it more real. he was not a type of person, in my opinion, who was scared of truth/reality.

Naw, man. This is not a man getting wasted for the lulz. This is a man ardently bent on self-destruction. He's not a fun kind of drunk in this interview, and in many other interviews from late in his career, he's a pathetic, dying kind of drunk. It's so sad... He was such a genius, and he did this to himself.

Poor pathetic Kerouac. So brilliant only ten years before, now look at him. Fucking terrifying what alcohol did to him. Or rather, what he did to himself.
