Activists across the globe on August 8, 2008 held a series of activities as an observation of the 20th anniversary of the popular pro-democracy uprising known as '8888' uprising. On August 8, 1988, student-led protestors put and end to Burma's one party socialist system and demanded for multi-party democracy system. But the military, which took power in yet another coup, brutally crushed the movement killing at least3, 000 protestors.

You have to tell the Chinese government not to support the junta. They do that for both political and economic reasons. The same is true to a lesser degree with India and Thailand. In a twisted way, Chinese do not mind economic sanctions by the West, because they can then control Burma better
