Taylor never attended Carolina, his dad was the dean of the med. school while they were there. He has spoken a lot about his fondness for the landscape of Chapel Hill and wrote the song because of his homesickness while recording in Europe. It's not about Charleston, SC...beautiful place but the song's about Chapel Hill

NORTH Carolina, not South.

In the "James Taylor Encyclopedia", James is quoted: "I was recording that Apple album and took a break and went to an island off the coast of Spain. And I met a girl named Karin and we took a boat to the next island. We missed the last boat back and didn't have money for a room and stayed in the street that night and waited for next morning when the boat ran again. She was asleep and I was up and I was thinking about my home in North Carolina and what it meant..."

You do know Taylor said he wrote this song with Charleston South Carolina in mind? I guess it does represent both of the Carolina's well though.

South Carolina?! You do know that James Taylor grew up in Chapel Hill, NORTH Carolina, where his father was a professor, right? And James is an alumnus of UNC.

But yeah, I'm sure his memories of the place are easily eclipsed by his memories of Charleston. Ha!
